Robert Patterson - Counselling and Psychotherapy in County Kerry

It is quite common for people to feel nervous about going to see a therapist, as the idea of talking to a stranger about our most personal thoughts and feelings can be very daunting. It is crucial therefore, that you find a therapist who you are comfortable with, and with whom you feel you can develop a good working relationship. Never be afraid to ask your therapist about their training and qualifications and check they have experience in working with your particular issue. A competent therapist will be quite happy to answer your questions and discuss their training and professional experience. I would recommend that you only see a therapist who is accredited with one of the professional associations in Ireland. These therapists have had to go through a rigorous process to acquire accreditation, and you are assured that they are working in an ethical and accountable fashion. I work one to one with adults over the age of 18 years. Sessions are provided both in-person and by Zoom video platform.

“I’ve struggled with depression, mood swings and obsessional thoughts for years. I’ve been to a number of counsellors and psychotherapists, but Robert is the only one who I would recommend. I don’t know anyone else who is as personal and thoughtful as he is. He not only intently listens and understands me as a client, but he also gives extremely practical, down-to-earth advice tailored to my life. This has played a huge role in changing my thought patterns and behaviour – something that is not typically easy to do. He is also so non-judgemental compared to other therapists I have been to in the past. All in all – coming from someone who had originally lost hope in getting help from mental health specialists – I’m a more grounded, clear-headed, knowledgeable person because of my sessions with Robert. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking to improve their life and mental health.”

My wife was given Robert’s contact details by her doctor, and I decided that I really had to go and see him as I have been suffering from low moods for years. I found Robert to be a really professional and caring person, and it helped that his practice is based in a convenient and very private location. Over the course of our sessions together, Robert has really helped me to cope far better with my low moods and also helped me to tackle some difficult episodes from my past that had been haunting me. I have found the therapy to be hugely beneficial, and my only regret is that I didn’t seek professional help much sooner. Thank you, Robert, for all your help and I will be booking in for my regular “maintenance” very soon!

I went to see Robert after getting a recommendation from my doctor. I instantly felt very comfortable talking with Robert, and he was able to give me useful advice on how to manage my anxiety. I had been thinking about going to see a therapist for years, but would always try to deal with things by myself. Going to see Robert has been the best thing that I could have done for myself, and I would recommend him to anyone who is struggling to cope.
